Life seldom yields the sharp lines we would like. Upon this we can all agree, especially sociologists who examine the opacity of social behaviours. Artist and sociologist Adán Vallecillo researches the histories of territories by interacting with their people, often deconstructing stereotypes to reveal realities that are much more nuanced that we might expect. In an exchange with the self-proclaimed commodity dealers who operate on the streets of Venice, Vallecillo traded the very foundation of their illegal work with the foundation of his artistic work: a white tablecloth for a white canvas. Vallecillo uses the folded cloths for his art practice, while the street vendors use the canvases to display their merchandise.
