There was once a time when bananas were unknown in the United States. The fruit’s introduction in 1870 marked the beginning of Central America’s century-long interminable economic dependence, which had the power to shift social realities and incite social revolutions. Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa embraced a vine of green bananas for a 20 day long-endurance performance at Despacio until he ripened them with the heat of his own body and shared them with visitors.
