Just as beauty standards defined and perpetuated through mass media have a drastic impact on our body image, so too is our sense of safety shaped by our media consumption. These two ideas collide in Ciudad Juárez’s popular tabloid newspaper PM, where every day the cover features photographs of corpses side by side with those of naked women. By collecting a year’s worth of PM covers, Teresa Margolles draws attention to the two very different representations of the human body as it is manipulated by the media, that of death and that of sex, which both come from a shared reality.
