In the course of a lifetime, most of us accumulate several different places we have called home. We tend to all agree that where we are influences who we are. When it comes to the homes we have left behind, how they continue to influence us is more complex. Luis Camnitzer, who has lived in New York since 1964, his practice remains intrinsically connected to his home country of Uruguay and the whole of Latin America. While trying to find his place in society as an artist, his role is reduced in this work to the simplest elements of the practice of art.
